A Message from Our Founder
If you have watched this disease take the smile, health, and soul from a loved one – and felt completely powerless to do anything about it – I know exactly what that feels like. I have had sleepless nights, tears, fears, frustrations, and self-doubt, all coming from a place of desperately wanting to help. I know what it’s like to not understand. I know what it’s like to say something when I shouldn’t, or to not say something when I should. I know the pain of watching a loved one cycle from illness, to health, back to illness – and I have lived in that place for over 20 years.
My wife, and mother of our seven children, passed away from this disease, and a co-occurring addiction in 2010, after struggling with it for over 30 years. It was devastating to watch. And the impact has been lasting for my children… and for me.
Sadly, this disease was also passed down to one of my daughters – which is not uncommon. When I first found out, I was paralyzed with fear that she would continue in her mom’s footsteps. My heart broke with agony to think that my daughter may have to endure the same pain that her mom did, and that she might never come back from it. We sought treatment, and I am happy to say she has come out the other side; stronger and healthier. The light is back in her eyes – and I hear the true joy in her laugh. She loves life, and she is a huge part of our family today. So I also know firsthand that recovery is possible – for the individual and for the family – and that gives me a great hope.
In founding Haven Hills Recovery, we set out to share that hope by creating one of the finest eating disorder treatment programs in the nation – a program where loved ones can regain their health and their life, and a program where families can heal and come together. I am proud to say we have done just that. I feel blessed to have such an incredible team of dedicated, highly-trained, passionate professionals who design unique programs of healing and freedom specifically for every woman, and every family, who walks through our doors. We keep our program small so that we can offer the individualized attention to every client and every family that you deserve.
